This special shrub is an early feature in the garden as the flowering period is February till April. The flower starts as dozens of silky white buds which shimmer in the winter sunshine, then open up to reveal richly perfumed canary yellow flowers atop the bare stems. Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Grandiflora’ is an unusual and striking specimen shrub for exotic gardens and shady woodland borders, especially so because it will be in bloom ahead of other garden features. Although it’s hardy to -5c (23f) this deciduous, spreading shrub would fare better planted in a sheltered position to prevent frost damage to the flowers. Height and spread: 150cm (59).
