Hedging Plant Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn) 1-1.2M

A great choice for wildlife friendly hedges, especially when mixed with Hawthorn, it provides a dense thicket of thorns, stems and leaves. Producing stunning white blossom in April, on bare stems before the leaves appear, it is a major bee attractant as it is loaded with pollen – so important for fruit tree pollination. In Autumn, it produces blue berries, ripening to thick black, called ‘sloes’. Harvest these after first frosts for the best sloe gin! or leave on the hedge for bird feed for the Winter months. Growing at 25-30cm per year, plant 3 or 4 per linear metre for best and quickest results. Mix with hawthorn for longer flowering and berry season interest.
