Sambucus nigra ‘Linearis’

Unlike any Elder you’ve seen before, Sambucus nigra ‘Linearis’ has the most delicate slender leaves and lacy texture, looking like a Japanese Maple or bamboo from a distance. The biggest giveaway is the characteristic umbels of frothy white elder flowers borne in May and June! These are followed by clusters of black elderberries from late summer which are loved by birds and other wildlife. Easy to grow and tolerant of most soils, this deciduous shrub has a more controlled growth habit than its wild hedgerow cousin so is easy to maintain in a small garden. A fantastic specimen shrub, Sambucus flowers are also attractive to bees and butterflies making this an all-round winner for your garden. Height: 3m (10′). Spread: 1.5m (5′).
