Abelia x grandiflora
The shrub, Abelia, can be quite under-used in the garden, yet it is one that can give endless interest, colour and scent. A semi-evergreen plant with strong, arching branches that gives valuable autumn interest thanks to its clusters of fragrant flowers. Performing well in dry, sunny conditions, Abelia is perfect for a warm, sunny border in your garden. The glossy foliage can be clipped into a neat hedge, staying in leaf for most of the year. Plants are most hardy when grown by a sheltered wall, although Abelia x grandilfora is the most hardy of all of the species. Height: 3m (9′). Spread: 4m (13′).
