Lonicera caerulea var. kamtschatica

A previously well-kept secret in their native Siberia, these sweet and blueberry-like fruits can be eaten fresh from the bush, or baked into jams, pies and muffins. Lonicera caerulea var. kamtschatica produces fruits known as honeyberries, very similar to blueberries in flavour, with a slight aftertaste of honey. These oval, black-blue fruits are high in antioxidants, and begin to ripen in early June. The shrubs are exceptionally hardy, long-lived, and easy to grow, producing increasing harvests year-on-year, starting in the first or second year after planting. Height and spread: 1.8m (6′). Spread: 1.5m (5′)
