Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Summer Wine’

Hardy and tolerant of a wide range of soils, Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Summer Wine’ is a reliable deciduous shrub bearing attractive burgundy leaves from spring through to autumn. From early summer, clusters of pink buds open to reveal pretty white flowers which contrast superbly with the foliage. As the leaves fall in autumn they reveal wonderful textured stems with peeling bark, which gives rise to the common name ‘Ninebark’. With so much to offer throughout the year, Physocarpus ‘Summer Wine’ really earns its keep in mixed borders or grown alone as a specimen shrub where you can appreciate its naturally graceful shape. Height and spread: 1.5m (5′).
