Verbascum olympicum
Every garden needs a plant that shouts ‘look at me’ so a Verbascum olympicum is a worthy contender. It will tolerate conditions that other plants would find hard to thrive in, such as hot and dry borders and poor soil and will quickly grow to 2 metres tall. The felted, silver rosette of basal foliage forms a backdrop to tall spikes of buttery-yellow flowers. Although Verbascum olympicum or Olympian Mullein is a hardy perennial it may not bloom until it’s third year and often dies after giving it’s all in a spectacular floral display but it will have left an abundance of seeds to take it’s place. This low maintenance perennial is an excellent summer addition to borders, cottage gardens and wildlife gardens. Height: 2m (6.6′). Spread: 60m (24).
