Iberis gibraltarica
For gardens with poor soil or in exposed coastal locations, Iberis gibraltarica, also known as ‘Candytuft’ is a nice option. It is native to North Africa and the only place in Europe where it grows wild is the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in Gibraltar, which features in its Latin name. This lovely, low growing plant forms evergreen clumps of linear foliage and bears clusters of lilac blooms from May to June. Candytuft is perfect for alpine gardens and rockeries or as ground cover at the front of borders. Height: 15cm (6). Spread: 30cm (12).
