Penstemon ‘Raven’
Much like their winged namesake, the purple flowers of Penstemon ‘Raven’ soar above the plant’s semi-evergreen foliage on tall spikes for the majority of the season. The sweet nectar of these blooms is sure to attract other flying creatures, albeit pollinating insects rather than real ravens. This shortcoming wasn’t enough to dissuade the RHS from granting the hardy perennial an AGM (Award of Garden Merit), so shouldn’t put gardeners off giving it a place in sunny borders or patio containers. In fact, given that the wild birds cannot easily be nurtured in a garden, this Penstemon is an entirely favourable type of raven to keep! Height: 90cm (3’0); Spread: 30cm (1’0).
