Betula nana
Betula nana is a deciduous dwarf shrub native to the Arctic regions of the world so well able to withstand cold and windy weather! Growing to a maximum height of 60cm (24), the Dwarf Birch has a low spreading habit and produces small, toothed green leaves which take on lovely shades of gold and burnt red in autumn. Having naturally adapted to the poor soils of the tundra, Arctic Birch is the perfect choice for a groundcover plant to cover steep banks, beneath tree and shrubs or planted in rock gardens. Rarely seen in garden centres, Betula nana makes an interesting and unusual specimen for the garden. Height: 60cm (24). Spread: 1.2m (4′).
