Abelia ‘Edward Goucher’
This variety of Glossy Abelia is a rounded, hardy shrub, which can be grown into a particularly striking informal hedge. Its semi-evergreen foliage retains its green colouring until the autumn, when the oval leaves acquire a bronze hue. However, it is the lilac-pink flowers that appear in July that arguably make Abelia ‘Edward Goucher’ most deserving of its RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit). These tubular blooms are sure to enrich any cottage garden with their delicate petals and honey-like scent. Best of all, when the plant is given plenty of sunlight, it will continue to flower well into October, adding valuable autumn colour to beds and borders. Height: 1.5m (4’11); Spread: 2m (6’6).
