Mulberry King White
The King White Mulberry is a rare specimen tree which is both ornamental and edible! Morus macroura is a fast growing, medium sized, spreading to weeping tree with glossy, heart-shaped leaves. As well as being a handsome ornamental tree, the fruit of the King White Mulberry is noted for its exceptional flavour and not to be confused with the bland-tasting white mulberry or Morus alba, which is commercially cultivated as a food source for the silkworm. In late summer, this rare tree produces impressive, tassel-like, pale green fruit up to 10cm long which ripen over a long period. The fruit is extremely sweet with a honey-like aroma. It can be eaten fresh or cooked in pies, desserts and jam.The new growth is sensitive to late spring frosts and so trees may require some protection in cold climates to ensure fruit set. The King White Mulberry can also be container grown and overwintered in an unheated greenhouse or conservatory. Ultimate Height: 10m (32′). Spread: 12m (39′).
